Recipe tips:

  • Drizzle melted chocolate over the Brownie Bombs for added indulgence.

  • Roll the Brownie Bombs in crushed nuts, sugar-free dark chocolate chips, or shredded coconut for added texture and flavor.

  • You can use peanut butter or cashew butter instead of almond butter.

  • If you don’t have monk fruit at hand, you can use a keto-friendly powdered sweetener such as erythritol or add homemade sugar-free maple syrup.

What are fat bombs?

Fat bombs are a popular component of the keto diet, as they offer high concentrations of healthy fats.

These small, high-fat treats are designed to keep you satiated between meals, making them an excellent addition to a low-carb diet, especially when you're trying to extend fasting periods.

"Fat bombs should be enjoyed as part of a meal, not as standalone snacks," explains Dr. Berg. "Limit your intake to one to two fat bombs per day to avoid overconsumption as they’re calorie-dense and may sabotage your weight loss goals."

There are many different keto fat-bomb recipes. Some are savory, and others are sweet. Fat bombs can be made with various ingredients, such as coconut oil, coconut butter, nut butter, cream cheese, grass-fed butter, and avocado.

Fat bombs can be particularly beneficial for those starting a keto diet, as they can help curb sugar and carb cravings, which makes it easier to stick to your new low-carb meal plan.

For those who have been on keto for a while and practice intermittent fasting but aren't seeing desired weight loss results, it might be time to reassess fat consumption.

Instead of adding extra fats by eating fat bombs or drinking bulletproof coffee, focus on consuming fats that naturally come with your meals, such as the fat from meats, dairy, nuts, and avocados.

This approach ensures you get the necessary nutrients without excessive calorie and fat intake, which can lead to weight gain.

About the ingredients

It's important to use high-quality ingredients to prepare Keto Brownie Bombs to ensure you're getting the most nutrition while achieving the best flavors.

Let’s take a look at the ingredients in these delectable Keto Brownie Bombs.

Coconut oil

Coconut oil is a staple in many keto recipes due to its high concentration of medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs). MCTs are easily absorbed and readily converted into ketones, offering a quick energy source while promoting ketosis.

MCTs can also support weight loss by inducing satiety and enhancing metabolic energy-making processes.

Research published in the Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture found that coconut oil’s unique fatty acid profile can help balance cholesterol, promote liver health, and may reduce the risk of certain cancers.

Almond butter

Almond butter is another excellent source of healthy fats, adding a creamy texture and nutty flavor to these Brownie Bombs.

Almonds are also a rich source of protein, making them a great option for muscle repair and growth.

Regularly consuming almond butter promotes optimal nutrient levels due to its high concentrations of essential vitamins and minerals, including vitamin E, magnesium, and calcium.

What's more, almonds have a high fiber content, thereby aiding digestive processes and inducing satiety, which is beneficial for weight management.

Cocoa powder

Dark cocoa powder

Unsweetened cocoa powder is rich in antioxidants and provides an intense chocolate flavor without added sugar or carbs.

Cocoa powder is also a good source of iron, magnesium, and potassium, which are essential for various bodily functions, including muscle contractions and nerve signal transmission.

Additionally, dark chocolate may boost moods by increasing endorphins and serotonin levels in the brain, which play a crucial role in inducing a feeling of well-being and happiness.

Powdered monk fruit sweetener

As a low-glycemic sugar alternative, powdered monk fruit adds sweetness without triggering blood sugar fluctuations.

It's a natural, zero-calorie sweetener derived from the fruits of the monk fruit tree, which is native to East and Southeast Asia.

Monk fruit contains mogrosides, the compound responsible for its sweet taste. Mogrosides have also been found to possess antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties linked to a lower risk of various chronic health issues.

Sea salt

Sea salt is harvested from evaporated seawater and retains trace minerals such as magnesium, potassium, and calcium. These minerals aren’t typically found in regular table salt due to extensive refining processes.

Essential minerals are crucial to maintaining the body’s fluid balance, hydration, nerve function, and muscle contractions.

Placing food in the fridge

How to store Keto Brownie Bombs

To store Keto Brownie Bombs, place them in an airtight container in the fridge to maintain freshness and prevent them from absorbing unwanted flavors.

Refrigerated, these fat bombs will stay firm and fresh for up to two weeks.

If you prefer to store them for a longer period, freeze fat balls in a single layer on a baking sheet before transferring them to a freezer-safe container or bag.

When ready to enjoy, allow them to thaw at room temperature for a few minutes, as eating them chilled can be challenging due to their firm texture.

Serving tips

It's crucial to enjoy Brownie Fat Bombs as part of a meal rather than consuming them as a stand-alone snack.

Fat bombs are high in calories, and snacking on them can quickly easily lead to overconsumption, which can hinder weight loss or lead to weight gain.

If you're following the keto diet to achieve a healthy body weight, it’s recommended to limit your intake to 1 to 2 Keto Brownie Fat Bombs per day.

However, if you're an active individual or following a high-calorie ketogenic diet for other health reasons, you may be able to eat more without sabotaging your weight loss goals. Listen to your body and adjust your fat bomb intake accordingly.

A keto fat bomb is best enjoyed as part of a nutritious meal, such as alongside a salad or protein source. This promotes steady blood sugar levels, reduces cravings, and enhances the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins.

Fat bombs can also be added to smoothies or used as a delicious topping for keto-friendly desserts.
