I started a ketogenic lifestyle with intermittent fasting in what felt like a last-ditch attempt to control my type 2 diabetes. I was diagnosed in early 2006. I was on seven different medications that doctors had prescribed to control the symptoms of metabolic syndrome. I was really frustrated with having to take all these medications knowing that in the long run it was only delaying the inevitable, or so I was told by my physician. I started on the Keto path in mid-November and the weight started dropping at a dramatic rate. I was a little worried it might be too fast. I kept going with it because I felt better than I could ever remember. I continued to lose weight with a combination of Keto and intermittent fasting. I started dropping medications one by one. Seven months in I am on a half dose of one medication for hypertension and off all other medications. I have lost 50 pounds and have so much energy that I can’t sit around and do nothing. Used to be a common occurrence to be a couch potato after work. My last A1C was 5.4 I would highly recommend this lifestyle to anyone, especially to anyone with type 2 diabetes/metabolic syndrome.
