Steroid free on Keto

Images Story

By: Tanner

My name is Tanner, I’m 28 years old with a medical history longer than many people will have in their lives. I’ll share the part that pertains to Keto and where I’ve used Dr. Berg's advice and the rest after. My Keto/intermittent fasting story: In the fall of 2019, I was entering my gym to work out. After feeling a bit off that morning, I collapsed in the lobby and awoke to paramedics administering chest compressions. I would end up at the hospital where they checked my heart through many different tests and after about 10 days there, I was diagnosed with cardiac sarcoidosis. I left the hospital with a pacemaker/ICD device implanted in my chest and on high dose prednisone and methotrexate which I was instructed to take for the next 6 months (prednisone) and 1 year+ (methotrexate). I gained a lot of weight during this period, from the steroids and my slow recovery to get back to normal life. After getting off the prednisone, I was 230lbs, in fall of 2020. It was around this time I found Dr. Berg and decided to get healthy. I really started my health journey in December 2020, when I was doing 23 hours fasts almost daily but not quite doing Keto. I kicked it up after a couple of months and did intermittent fasting with some prolonged fasting mixed in but now doing a very clean version of Keto. Along with moderate exercise, my Keto and intermittent lifestyle have given me amazing results. I’m the fittest and leanest I’ve ever been and feel the healthiest I’ve felt in my entire adult life. I’m down from 230lbs to 175lbs. I really want to thank Dr. Berg for his help. The way he explains things is extremely digestible and efficient. I’ve even got some of my friends and my father Interested in his videos. (Pictures attached: Orange shirt is in summer 2020 shortly after I got off steroids.230lbs Grey shirt is summer 2021 after 6 months of clean keto/intermittent fasting 175lbs) -End Keto Story- I use Dr. Bergs videos to help me in other aspects besides keto as well. I thought I’d share my whole story. Usually people in the medical field get a kick out of my history. At 17 I suddenly developed major allergies, sinusitis, and asthma. I spent the next few years suffering daily until I ended up with a seriously infected sinus which required a largely invasive surgery. (Cranialization of the frontal sinus, entering through the forehead. My sinus had eroded my eye socket away and was pressing down on my eye) After this I was on prednisone off and on while searching for a fix to my issues. I was then diagnosed with Aspirin Exacerbated Respiratory Disease (AERD/samters triad) and would be put through an aspirin desensitization process which afterwards required me to take high dose aspirin, day and night for the rest of my life. I ended up spending the next ~10 years taking aspirin along with what seemed like all the allergy and asthma medications available. With little relief I continued to struggle with my symptoms which effected my work and personal relationships as well. I eventually developed extremely itchy rashes and kidney problems. After the collapse at the gym, the extended intake of prednisone, and then finding Dr. Berg, I was eager to fix my issues once and for all. I got off the aspirin and cut back my intake of many allergy and asthma meds I was taking. I believe intermittent fasting and clean Keto have helped me a lot but as well I love all the advice on vitamins and nutrients and really believe supplementing has helped a bunch. Thank you again Dr. Berg!
