Rocio Hess's Story

Images Story

By: Rocio Hess

Rocio Hess knew that diabetes, cancer, and high blood pressure ranin her family. In an effort take preventative measures, she embarked on a weight loss journey.

“I wanted to be proactive in taking control over my health when it became difficult for me to do simple things like tie my shoes without getting winded,” she said.“I was also struggling with anxiety and depression that I was taking medication for.”

Hess found Dr. Berg while searching YouTube for information on keto and intermittent fasting. “The short videos were so packed with great information, so I [used] Dr. Berg videos to find answers to my questions along the journey,” she said.

Although her primary goal was weight loss, through Dr. Berg’s videos she learned that it’s more important to be healthy than to lose weight. As soon as she started paying attention to what was fueling her body, Hess noticed that the number on the scale was getting smaller.

“The hardest part about losing weight has been to not get so down on myself if I decide to go off-plan for a special occasion,” said Hess.“I’m still making much better choices for myself than I ever have—so treating myself from time to timedoesn’t need to be a big deal.”

At first, family members questioned the keto way of eating but as they’ve seen her progress, they’ve been incredibly supportive. Yet for Hess the weight loss wasn’t a steady downward trend. “With all the ups and downs and lessons learned, I wouldn’t change a thing about the beginning of this keto journey!” she said.

Hess gradually saw changes in the mirror and every milestone she achieved was the confidence-boost she needed to continue. “I love the way I feel now and that has been the biggest motivation to keep going and never look back,” she said.

With keto and intermittent fasting, Hess has lost 37 pounds (16 kg) in five months. She can’t remember the last time she felt this confident. Being active is no longer intimidating for her. “It’s an excuse to get an all-new wardrobe!”

“Take control of your health!” advised Hess.“Don’t go another day wondering where you’d be if you had started earlier.”

Favorite Way to Exercise: “To be honest, I’m still not crazy about exercising,” she said, laughing. “I’m hoping someday I’ll warm up to it instead of it being a love/hate relationship.”
