Regenerating life
By: John RohanWeaver
The story that involves Dr. Berg starts about 17 months ago when I was weighing in at 310 lb. Previous to this, I was diagnosed with ALS and went into a deep depression, and just started putting on weight. In March of 2020, I caught the current virus and at 62 and 310 lb, at times I felt I was going to die. I could barely walk 50 yards without gasping for breath. I finally just gutted it out and pretty much stayed in bed for almost 3 weeks. I did survive it but it wasn't the first time that I caught something like this. I also had the swine flu back in 1975 at fort Dix and was very ill as well but survived. I was only 17 at the time. Let's get back to how Dr. Berg got me on track to regenerate my life. I started watching some YouTube videos and was a little familiar with the keto as many years ago I did the Atkins diet for almost 10 years. I realized after watching Dr. Berg's videos that there was a big difference between what keto was and what I was doing on the Atkins diet. I also purchase Dr. Gundry's book and started reading a little bit about nutrition from his side point. I realize very quickly that they were both on the same page so I applied the knowledge I learned and went back to the gym and started working out. My Keto plan is extreme compared to what's been mentioned online. I won't really get into all the details, but I'll put it this way, the main course of my nutrition is mushrooms, olive oil, sauerkraut, and eggs. I also use spices and some hemp protein and fiber as well. I started with the two meal a day fast and after about 2 months I went to one meal a day. It seemed like it took almost 2 months before I started seeing the weight really coming off. So I must have had major insulin resistance going on. Then all of a sudden it turned around and I started losing weight but I was losing it extremely fast. I increased my calorie intake with olive oil and it seemed to slow down the weight loss a little bit. To wrap this up 17 months later at 63, I now weigh 185 lb the same weight when I was in the Army at 17. I can pass the current Army PT test which is almost as hard when I was in at 17 but not quite. But it's still pretty difficult for a 63 year old man to pass. I'm talking about the new PT test that they just put in. There's no doubt that keto is the way. I just believe you have to find your keto way to make it work and whatever exercise you decide to do. Utilizing the information that you received from Dr Berg and just stick to it even if the results don't seem to come very quickly you got to stick to it. It just flat out works in the long run. The bonus is it's extremely easy to maintain and for me it's 63 it definitely feels like the fountain of youth has blessed me.
