No quit
By: Buddy La Femina
For the past 78 years, I’ve been super active, was still riding a motorcycle, climbing 40-foot ladders, walking till I get there, and then it hit me. My breathing got difficult at every move. The bell rang me when just getting up out of a chair caused me to gasp for air and have to grab something to keep from falling. With excellent health insurance, I had EKGs, and MRIs, for my heart, lungs, neck, and brain. Even stress tests Ultrasound. The Docs kept coming back with “your fine.” I asked since there is no book on getting old, am I supposed to just sit in a rocker now and wait to start drooling until I die? I met with my heart guy and discussed the future if any. I complained that I ate less food than ever before, and didn’t even drink or smoke. I told him I bought all the home exercise equipment, but wanted approval before I stroked out at the first attempt of cardio exercise. My Doc suggested changing my diet, and the rest is history.
After studying all of Dr. Berg’s videos over and over, it was easy to discover that 90% of my food consumption was heavily sugar-based. It sucks to be Italian and have grown up on loaves of Italian bread and pasta. When I went to Medellin 4 years ago, I was asked where I think I should be and I responded 173. I was tested for my true BMI where with sophisticated testing of weight of my organs, bones muscle. It was determined that my fighting weight is 191.
On March 15, 2022, I logged in at 228. Mind you, I am 5’7’’. I dove all in starting with a 72 hour fast, which was a piece of cake. Next started fish, chicken, broccoli and Keto shakes.
April 2nd, and I am down to 212. There is no quit in sight. At my age I have nothing but time. If it takes 6 months, I’m going to reach my goal.
