My Life with Keto, fasting, and portion control, along with vinegar
By: PENNY M JONES
My story started during Covid. I had a job and lost it. They were doing cutbacks and I ended up with depression. I was already getting crippled up from the issues with lymphedema after I took a couple of serious falls. I am 57 years old and I was finally walking with a walker. I had a back injury about 20 years ago and then about 10 years ago fell on my knees and it resulted in lymphedema. Anyway, after being depressed and unemployed for a year, I was finding it difficult to ambulate at all anymore. I wouldn't come out of the house, I would just trap myself and only did video visits to the doctor. I ended up way past 400, closer to 450. I was ready to die I thought. My legs were huge from the lymphedema, I couldn't walk, couldn't find a job because I couldn't walk, I mean teachers are supposed to be on their feet. My daughter couldn't support me, I ran out of my retirement, and I was about to lose my apartment.
So, as I was about to live in my car, or rather probably die in my car; my sister said come live with me and get your life back together. She said her friend thinks if I were to get on Keto, I would find a way out of my mess. I thought she was nuts because my legs had developed sores that I had no idea were so bad and deep, but I was weak and losing color.
So by the end of June I moved, first week of July we started Keto. I went from 448 to 403 in the first 3 months, then I stopped losing. I was so excited about losing so much that I started reading about Keto.I started listening to videos by Dr. Berg. I started getting interested in what I could do to help myself get back to losing. I started Intermittent Fasting, then I added a tbsp of vinegar to my mornings, then I decided since I couldn't exercise that maybe I wouldn't lose anymore. I just couldn't seem to imagine myself losing, so I didn't even weigh anymore. My sister said that I sure did look like I was losing. My clothes started loosening up. I weighed myself after the fourth month...I had lost nearly 80 pounds, so I kicked in a little tighter with portion control, really hammering at the monitoring my carbs on the carb manager.
After 8 months of being on this diet, I have lost 114 pounds and still going. I have added a new thing to my diet now that I am walking better and moving around, I bought an exercise machine. It's a lifepro and after a month of that my lymphedema has actually been doing a lot better. My sores on my legs are gone. My legs are getting thinner\ along with my body. Thank God I dug a little deeper and found that there is more than just Keto to help me become more successful. Thank you, Dr. Berg. I went a few years with not even a doctor telling me that Keto could change my life of morbid obesity. Now I can look forward to a new life.
