My last resort to health
By: Gurbaani Bhalla
Hello Dr. Berg! I’ve been following your channel for a while now, but never really took the time out to process what you’d say. Recently I had gained about 15 kgs in around 1.5 years, most of which was after the pandemic started. The isolated sedentary lifestyle came at a much greater cost. My clothes were not fitting anymore, I was breathless often & had lost the courage to step outside & see people. One day to open my eyes for a change I stepped on the scale and my weight was at 95 kilos. It was heartbreaking. I moderated my eating & started intense exercise 3 days a week. The “moderated diet” had plenty of hidden sugars & carbs. The cravings were intense which eventually led to cave in & finish a box of brownies. The delusion I was under was maintained till the time I worked from home aka in my stretchable elastic pajamas. The second shock came in when I tried stepping out & nothing fit. I stepped on the scale & it hit 99 kg. I thought I was “moderating” my eating. I thought I exercised but then how could this happen? I planned to up my exercise & be more stringent with my diet. Shortly after I had an injury & had to be on bed rest for a month. It was devastating. I had to do something because my weight was the culprit in my injury. I had no solution in mind, at least the one that would work. I was a sucker for sugar. No control whatsoever. Since I could barely move, I spent all day lying in bed & watching your videos. Slowly I gained mobility & out of sheer rage for gaining so much weight I decided to try intermittent fasting & keto. I had 2 meals a day, between 2 pm & 8 pm. I love vegetables, so based my diet solely on low carb veg, cheese, some meats and the holy grail of all - eggs. In just 2 days I forgot what it felt like to crave for sugar. Breads were a thing of the past. It's like It never existed. It's been 25 days approximately and I currently weigh 93kg. I dont feel sluggish or fatigued during the day & I feel light overall. I checked my ketones level every other day and I was producing high level of ketones in my urine. One fine day, I accidentally consumed parma harm & had an allergic reaction. I was sick all night & my body was inflamed for about 48 hrs. A few days after recovery I checked my ketone level & suddenly It had dropped significantly! I was amazed. I had no idea what happened. My diet was the exact same as before. So what kicked me out of ketosis? I researched more on your profile & hypothesised that it may have been the cortisol rush when I had the alergic reaction followed by psychological stress due to personal reasons. I'm still staying steady & trying to reduce my stress levels. But after a great start I really don't want anything to get in the way.
