My experience with stomach pain, heart burn, and taking prescribed PPI

Story

By: Kat

It all started 7 years ago when I was under a lot of stress. Severe stomach pain after eating, on two occasions, extreme pain sent me to ER. Then, a visit to a highly well-respected Gastroenterologist who performed a battery of tests, including upper GI, checking for stomach ulcers, and other issues of the stomach, small intestines, esophagus, and also a colonoscopy, All tests came back good, except after a gallbladder scan, it was determined that I had fine gall stones, which is typical of folks over 50, especially women. My pain however was not in the typical area where most have pain from Gallstones. The Gastroenterologist prescribed a PPI and sent me to an associate surgeon for evaluation of removing the Gallbladder. The surgeon told me that Gallbladder pain sometimes radiates to the middle and left quadrant below the rib cage and not where the Gallbladder is, and scheduled surgery to remove it, several days later. I know my body and did not believe the pain was associated with my Gallbladder. The only symptom that matched, was that I had extreme pain sometimes immediately to an hour after consuming any foods high in protein. I canceled the surgery. However, even after weeks of taking the PPI, my pain did not subside, I would be “bent double for hours, moaning in pain. Thus began my research. I learned that as we get older, our stomachs sometimes produce less acid, thus causing indigestion, pain, and the same symptoms of acid reflux/GERD. Then, while researching, I ran across Dr. Berg’s YouTube on Gerds and the benefits of ACV and decided to give it a try. So, the first evening after consuming meat, I started having the pain but had my ACV cocktail ready to consume. I drank several big gulps, and gas was released from my stomach, and the pain stopped. I finished my meal, and, the pain never returned that night! After several days of this, I decided to wean myself off the PPI, (had been on it for a year, and my pain got worse.) I then began my ACV cocktail mixture recommended by Dr. Berg throughout the day, before, during, and after meals. I never had that pain return, even if I miss my ACV cocktail with meals, I still have no pain, and I had suffered with it for years prior. To think...the highly recommended Gastroenterologist never discussed “low stomach acid. BTW, to date, I have no known Gallbladder issues, The bonus was that I continued to follow and learn from Dr. Berg regarding the health benefits of Healthy Nutritional Keto and I.F. and began my journey. My journey began with a goal to lose the 30 lbs that I had packed on in the past 3 years, but my priority quickly transitioned from wanting to loose the weight to the health benefits I experienced. The weight came off eventually, but the my increased energy, and other health benefits trumped the weight loss. I have continued Keto, following Dr. Berg now since 2018, and can not imagine ever going back to pre-Keto. Thank you, Dr. Berg! You are a great teacher, and I owe all my health success story to you!♥️
