My experience with a keto and IF diet plan

Story

By: Michelle

On the last day of January 2022, I decided to try the keto diet. I had already been doing intermittent fasting for about 3 months and lost 5 lbs. At that point, progress was very slow and I nearly gave up, thinking that at 40 years of age, nothing was going to work to get rid of my extra fat. I wasn’t quite ready to live with that notion, however…and I was more determined than usual, so onward I went (keep in mind, I’ve never been overweight, but have been close to upper weight limits for my height for the past 3 years).

I had been seeing Dr. Berg’s health advice on and off for years and then found him on Instagram. That’s when I really kicked things into gear, as I had all of these new tips and tricks to try. At first, I had a larger eating window (6-8 hours) but I limited my carbs to about 20-25 per day. Immediately, I noticed a huge benefit. I wasn’t hungry! Cravings were very minimal and within a month and a half, my old favorite restaurants were no longer appealing in the least. I lost a few pounds very quickly, but then… weight loss stalled. So I went back to Dr. Berg’s youtube channel & Instagram and found some help. I started to add in more big leafy green salads with either arugula and-or mixed baby greens. I love these combined with Bragg’s organic olive oil, lemon, salt, and nutritional yeast. This helped clean me out a bit and kept the weight loss steadily going. Then I hit another stall and decided to narrow my eating window to about 4 hours a day.

The most recent thing I’ve done is up to my carbohydrates (to 40 grams a day) and lower my calorie intake just a little. The increased carbs are coming from berries, vegetables, and sprouted grains (small amounts of Ezekiel bread) and that seems to be what my body really loves. I’ve bypassed the plateau for now and continue to be on the right path to feeling better! I have lost 12 lbs and 3 inches off my waist (that visceral fat is finally disappearing!). Overall, I’ve experienced a major increase in the mood and I’ve kicked my alcohol cravings. This is a big one for me. I was drinking way too much wine before I made all of these changes.

Looking back, I see that I was more addicted to the sugar in the wine than the actual alcohol! My energy is now through the roof most days. I’m less focused on food, so I feel like I have many more hours to play and work. I’ve also noticed that my blood pressure has gone way down. This is a tough one to measure since I used to be afraid to use my at-home monitor and I recently started drinking hibiscus ?? tea (thanks to your recommendation). Readings would typically be 150 over 90 something or 100. I've been measuring it for the past two days and it’s down to the low 120’s over 90!! I have experienced zero downsides to this type of lifestyle. I can’t believe how easy it’s been to adjust and how I can effortlessly fast for longer periods of time. A little advice to help with progress - really know what you’re eating and consume non-processed foods. In the beginning, I was using a coffee creamer that added up to nearly 20 sugars in one sitting and didn’t realize it. That set me back for a while! Also, be sure to supplement if you need it. I’ve been taking Dr. Berg’s cruciferous capsules, enzymes with ox bile, and magnesium. These all help keep me regular and more.

Thank you, Dr. Berg. You’ve been my behind-the-scenes helper through this seriously life-altering positive change and your work will never be overlooked. I appreciate your expertise and guidance so very much! I now know the true secret to healthy living and I’ll forever be grateful.
