Story

By: Kainoa Blackeagle

On the 14th of May, I began my journey into intermittent fasting. My meal intake plan has changed because of my education of meal macros, carbs, ketosis, autophagy, and much more. I started off at 23 :1. That's right. Eating only once in a one-hour window. My meal intake consisted of soup, salad, kimchi, and simple ingredient Icelandic skyr, each food item was strictly kept into their serving size. Then in June, I began introducing Ka'chava into my meal plan. I would start with Ka'chava then soup, salad, etc. By the time I got two bites into my salad I was getting full. Then I learned about the soy product that was in my soup for no reason as it wasn't a meal ingredient. So I stopped the soup and salad and just went with Ka'chava, 1 serving of Siggi's Simple Ingredient Skyr, and a cup of kimchi. Today is the 2nd of August and since the 3rd of June, I have lost over 30 pounds! I have been in ketosis since the 22nd of June. But let's not celebrate yet! Because complacency is the enemy of betterment. I also celebrated 11 years of sobriety on the 14th of July! Because I'm 51, I went in for my first colonoscopy on the 21st of July and came through with flying colors! My recovery after the procedure was a quick 5 minutes. The doctor called me a few hours after and told me, "whatever you're doing, keep it up, because you don't need to come back for another 10 years." My BMI is incredibly important to me and right now although I'm in the green, but I wanna be dead center! Two weeks before the colonoscopy, I began a 72 hour fast between my last meal on Wednesday at 4 pm and Saturday evening at 7:20 pm. As of writing this, I've done it for three continuous weeks. It can be done, it's 100% mental! I have to safety pin my shorts from falling off my hips, I'm not ready to shop for new clothes just yet. I now wear size large shirts which I haven't worn since I was 24! One week ago, I introduced solid foods back into my diet with wild-caught sockeye salmon and ribeye steak. I factored in all the macros a week before. Which still falls in line with a low calorie/low carb meal intake plan. When I moved back home to Hawaii I was 17 pounds away from my peak BMI but all of the Hawai'ian foods I had missed for 12 years while living in Massachusetts were before me, and yes I pigged out! What's worse is the staple side dish here is white rice. But I've overcome that too! No rice, no bread! This is a minor portion of a new mindset I've introduced into my life called Dedication To Excellence! It's had a mega transformative effect on me physically and mentally. Because almost 4 years ago, I incurred a very serious concussion at home, spurred by micturition syncope. Chronic migraines, seas of brain fog, photophobia, vestibular hyperacusis, dizziness, lightheadedness, difficulty forming words, sentences, and retaining word memory, I had it all. I still have bad days, but I don't let that stop me. My mobility is up considerably! When I want to get out of bed, I'm like a fresh spring forward moving. So, it can be done, but you can't be lazy about it. You have to put the work into the results you want. And I don't know about you, but I'm viciously critical about myself. But that's what propels me forward. Much love to you all and best of luck in your healthy endeavors! And huge thanks to Dr. Eric Berg for the educational information he shares with our community! Go get 'em!
