Life-changing way of eating
By: Susan McAllister
Hi there, I'm 59 and live in Ontario, Canada. I currently weigh 140 and have kept 20 lbs off for almost 3 years using the principles of the keto diet. At one point, I was as high as 170 lbs. I've been on the "heavy" side most of my life. I am strong and was always involved in sports, especially ones like shot put, baseball, volleyball. I love the gym and have done strength training since my early 20's. Keeping my weight down was something I always struggled with. I was addicted to sugar. I specifically remember in my 40's evaluating my eating habits and confiding in friends that I loved fast food, and I never go a day without dessert(s).
I've been on many diets. One that worked really well for me for over 3 years was the Isagenix shake meal plan. I think because the shakes were sweet and yet satisfying. They controlled my sugar cravings. I felt awesome and was strong and fit. But the lowest weight I ever got to was 150 lbs on Isagenix. It was very expensive and I eventually could not maintain the cost. It was Dr. Berg's videos that got me started. As well, as a book by Dr. Boz called Anyway You Can.
Getting fat-adapted was hard. I made fat bombs and ate steak for quite a while in the beginning. Probably six months. I experienced the keto flu in the beginning but was prepared for it. After six months or so, I noticed I was so fat adapted that I was hardly ever hungry and full of energy. It was very easy to just not eat. The longest I've fasted is 24 hours. I tend to eat one meal a day...easily. During the last year, I've tried to back off the fat and eat more vegetables and greens. I still eat mostly once a day, my go-to snack is a small bowl of a variety of nuts. I usually add a few Krisda chocolate chips to add sweetness. Yes, I still love something sweet, but the urge to binge on ice cream and donuts is no longer there. Keep up the great work. Your videos are life-changing for people. I couldn't be happier.
