Keto saved me

I began struggling with my weight after having children. I gained 50 lbs after my youngest son's first birthday. I had a demanding job and was always physically active, so at 35 and 175 lbs, I found myself seeking a diet for the first time.

At age 40, I had tried three different diets, bought the books and the products, I would lose then gain it back. I began to swim and go to the gym which seemed to help with my mental state. My oldest two boys are twins and one left for college and the other went to the Airforce.

I went into a deep depression and began to rapidly put on weight. On top of that menopause struck with a fierceness I could not have prepared for. I looked up the symptoms and I had every one of them. With high blood pressure and migraines, crying at nothing, and 0 energy I could barely make it through a day. Sadly, my husband had enough of my "state of decline" and left. This started years of neglect and self-pity. My work was doing a weight loss challenge and several of us decided to team up. My coworker that went before me weighed in at 210lbs, I felt so sad for her and quietly thought, I'm glad I don't weigh that much. I stepped on the scale and the nurse said 240lbs! I was devastated! I hadn't been on a scale in years.

Later, the nurse shared with me some stories of people getting healthy on a Keto diet. Something new was enticing and it sounded easy. I did a bunch of research online for meal plans and at 49 years old and 240lbs, I started my journey. It was going slow but I was hopeful. I was telling my sister about trying keto and she said, " if you are going to do it follow this Dr. Berg on YouTube" he says you don't lose weight to get healthy, you get healthy to lose weight. This concept made so much sense due to all the physical problems I was experiencing. I started watching his videos after I had been doing what I thought was keto. I immediately began to intermittent fast. LIFE CHANGER! I knew right away I was doing something right because the keto flu kicked my behind. Headaches, body aches, I got a rash around my eyes on down my arms. This was so awful, I almost quit but I looked up specific videos on the Keto flu. I bought Dr. Berg's electrolytes, trace minerals, and green juice mix. I put pink Himalayan salt in my water every day and used MCT oil in my coffee.

For me, lots of protein and heavy fats seemed to work the best. I ate one meal a day and it was fantastic! My craving began to go away. As the weeks went by, I noticed my skin clearing up and looking better than ever. My energy was back, headaches going away and I could sleep through the night! I was noticing things I didn't even realize were a problem until it went away. oh, more hip pain, shoulder pain, pain in my hands went away. I would cry over how good I felt! Many of my Co-workers were inspired and started their own journeys to health. I told everyone who would listen about this miracle I had found.

Within a year I was down to 135lbs. I swam for exercise and started my own house cleaning business which is very physically demanding. I felt 20 years younger. At 53, I am still so thankful to Dr. Berg and watching his videos daily! I do cheat once in a while but if my joints start aching or I get a headache, I know exactly why! It is definitely a life time change but so worth the journey! Don't ever give up and do your research. Thank you Dr. Berg! For all you do for the Keto community! You are my hero!
