Leon Forte|I feel great.
By: Leon Forte
I am a 69 years old male who had a weight problem almost all my life. I would diet and lose weight then gain it all back and then some. A real Yo-Yo syndrome. I remained obese with a hanging gut. I have gout, arthritis, high blood pressure, a fatty liver, and neurological problems.
As I was getting older, I had less and less energy having to take a nap or two per day. I got up (I kid you not) up to 10 or more times a night on many nights to go to the bathroom. (I was told that it was due to neurological damage and there was nothing the doctors could do about it except not to drink after 7 PM which helped but I was still getting up a lot. I had encephalitis).
I considered getting up only four or five times a night a good night. I heard of keto and intermittent fasting and thought that I can never do that. After all, an Italian who came from a family of immigrants could never give up pasta and bread. I became desperate when my general practitioner and my cardiologist both told me that I had a fatty liver. I drank a lot in my youth (I owed a bar) and way back then I was told my liver was in bad shape. I gave up drinking and never gave it a second thought until the wake- up -call from both of my doctors.
One doctor wanted me to see a gastroenterologist and stated that he will probably want to do a liver biopsy. That scared me since my neighbor's daughter had one and she died on the table due to bleeding out. I soon found Dr. Berg by doing a search. I have been following his advice for about 4 or 5 months now. The results are astounding. I go either 18 or twenty hours without eating and have a 4 to 6-hour eating window. I do not feel hungry. I have no more cravings for carbs. The difference between doing an 18 and 20 hour fast is a very mild headache before the 20th hour.
The first week I was hungry and willpower would have not have done the trick. Fear did the trick. (I did not follow Dr. Berg's advice to gradually get into it except at first it was 14 hours, then 16 hours, and finally where I am at now.) The result is losing 32 pounds so far (I have a way to go). I sleep better and wake up only once or twice a night now. My arthritis is almost gone. My gout attacks are mild and last shorter amounts of time (usually they put me in the emergency room [three or four times per year] and last until I get steroid shots and pills).
In my last gout attack, the doctors admitted me to the hospital due to the amount of morphine they gave me. Medications to prevent gout did not work well for me and I did not feel right when using them. (I actually became a vegetarian for about two years. I did not lose weight and still had attacks) I have more energy now and feel ten years younger. My doctor told me that whatever I am doing keep doing it because it is working. I still have fatty liver but it has started to improve. I am waiting for my BP to be normal without medication, although that is hereditary, and have had it since I was twenty-three years old.
I cannot thank Dr. Berg enough. Now, I even feel as though I am improving neurologically (I can not believe it). I cannot imagine how I will be after years of following Dr. Berg's advice. Thanks, Doc. I feel like a different person. I only wish that I did this years ago. What is wrong with the medical profession? I should have been told about this by my doctors years ago.
