Dr. Berg Saved My Life

Back in 2017 I was 41 years old. I was about 50 pounds (if not more) overweight. I had a high blood pressure (which I had been unsuccessfully battling since I was 26), high triglycerides, acne, migraines, and severe acid reflux. I had little to no energy and was tired pretty much 24/7. My body was riddled with aches and pains and fluid. I also had terrible mood swings, depression and irritability. I was absolutely miserable and I knew I needed to change. I had tried many times in the past…with some success, but it never lasted. I would always gain my weight back plus more. One day I came across one of your videos where you were discussing the ketogenic diet and intermittent fasting. After watching the video I decided to click the link you provided and do the body evaluation quiz. My result was that I was an adrenal body type. I decided to try the ketogenic diet combined with intermittent fasting for one week. I chose one week because I never dreamed I would be able to go without carbs or sugar for that long. I can remember laughing out loud thinking “you won’t make it one day, much less one week.” Nevertheless, I decided to give it a try. Four days into this lifestyle (yes you read that right…just four days!) I began to notice a significant difference in how I felt. My brain fog had totally lifted, as did my mood and overall well being. I was happy and had energy! I could not believe it! Then as the days progressed I noticed that my acid reflux was gone as were my body aches and pains. My acne was clearing up as well and I was sleeping like a baby at night. The weight was also coming off at a steady rate of about 1-2 pounds a week. I admit that when I started keto and IF my main goal was weight loss. However, when I started to feel better THAT became my main motivator for continuing. The weight loss became secondary and was the icing on the cake for me. The best thing of all was that I was able to get off of my blood pressure medication and for the first time since I was 26 years old my blood pressure was normal and has stayed that way ever since. What started out as an experiment has now become my lifestyle and I have never looked back. I feel better at 45 than I did at 25. I have even had people on more than one occasion that I’ve known for years tell me I’m aging backwards…lol. It’s all so humbling and so rewarding. I would never want to return to the way I was living before keto. I also know that had I not found your video when I did, then I would be in serious trouble today…if not dead. My doctor told me that a stroke was imminent if I did not get my blood pressure under control. Also, diabetes and heart disease runs ramped in my family. One of the things I appreciate most about you, Dr. Berg is not only how accessible you made this information, but how easy you made it to follow….and boy did I need it to be easy. I find keto so remarkable because I can basically take any of my favourite recipes and “ketofy” them. It’s so sustainable for me because the food is delicious and I don’t feel like I’m depriving myself. I sincerely appreciate you and your beautiful wife Karen for all you’ve done for me and for countless others. You’ve given so much to the world and I will be eternally grateful. Thank you so much.
