Athlete Performance - Faster, Leaner & Stronger as an athlete through IF & keto
By: Larri Wallbridge
As an endurance athlete (mountain-biking); I have found incredible shifts in my performance since taking up intermittent fasting (2 years ago). A regular (daily) follower on YouTube of Dr. Berg, I have incorporated much of his valuable knowledge; much more than just fasting - but also in supporting my balance and recovery.
Hence my sleep (recovery) and nutritional strategies have also upped my game. I am by no means large but my 11.5% weight loss means I speed up the hills so much faster than my competitors (it's the equivalent of 9 bottles of water!!!!!) A few other benefits that I have experienced:
1. My reliance on continually "refueling" (typically through sugars) has radically decreased. Whilst my colleagues suffer "hanger" & require to carry sugar-laden foods with them - I take a few nuts in my back pocket as a safeguard.
2. Surprisingly, I have found holes in the traditional advice of onboarding carbs pre-training for greater performance. After fasting I am amazed that my morning rides feel strong and energetic (without feeding beforehand). That has meant a major change in that belief system.
3. I have had to be creative, in what I take for refueling, on the extra challenging longer training rides. But am about to try Dr. Berg and his wife's cauliflower wraps (with avo).
My heartfelt and sincere appreciation for Dr. Berg. Your generosity with your expert knowledge has impacted me profoundly - so much so that I am seriously considering becoming a keto coach for other athletes.
My sincere and heartfelt thanks. Larri
