Mee Gee|A Work IN Progress

Story

By: Mee Gee

I am truly a work in progress. I have started and stopped keto a number of times for various and sundry reasons. I finally came to the conclusion, after trying so many plans over the years, that I need a plan that works with me rather than forcing me to work with it. I would follow the plan for a few months and invariably I would hit a wall that manifested in resentment to the plan. One day, while standing in the supermarket check-out line, I read an article about a lady over 50 losing over 147 pounds. I felt guilty and bought the magazine although I had read the article while in line. The article had copious accolades about Dr. Berg and keto. I watched many of Dr. Berg's videos and read many articles on keto. Eureka! My light bulb went off the moment I read I did not have to eat fruit. I really do not like fruit. I actually love vegetables. I realized these were two points that are extremely important. Additionally, I am very comfortable with intermittent fasting, although I did not use the term. Finally, there was a plan that accommodates me rather than forcing me to accommodate! I purchased Dr. Berg's plan and experimented with the plan for about 6 weeks. I lost a whopping 2lbs. I stopped but could not stop thinking about the plan. Watched Dr. Berg's video on how long it takes to really get into ketosis. I realized was consuming far too many carbs. I knew I had a problem with carbs. My body does not process them well. I got serious, adapted the file to my eating preferences, and began walking again. This time I lost 17lbs in 5 weeks. I had lost 22lbs by the end of 8 weeks. This is a great phase for me as I have a hypoactive thyroid for which I am medicated. I had to take a 6-week break to care for a gravely ill sister. I was terrified I would regain all of the weight in a week as I was no longer in control of what or when I ate and I was no longer walking. I am delighted to say, even during these circumstances I only regained 4lbs in the 6 week period. I can live with that! I will be home next week wherein can get back on plan. Looking forward to a great rest of the year!
