37 lbs lost after 2months of Keto and IF, after having been on Cortisone multiple times.
By: Marcus Galler
Hello! My name is Marcus, I am 34 and I'm from Germany! I have Ulcerative Colitis and Sarcoidosis (Stage 4). I found Dr. Berg's youtube channel already back in 2018, but only checked a few selected videos, and I wasn't interested in IF or Keto at the time. However, I knew about it due to that. Over the years I had to take Cortisone multiple times starting in 2009. In all that time I gained lots and lots of weight, while I never went fully obese, I was never able to get back down to the 7% body fat I had before all of that. Due to being sick, I had to stop going to the gym as well. All of that, especially Cortisone drove my insulin resistance up a lot, I always wanted candy after a meal. Every time I did lose weight due to a random factor, I'd get it back really fast as well. Before IF and Keto, my diet has always looked very bad. Fries, Pizza (the one sin I always commit), candy, chips, etc., and also cola was the only drink I'd ever consume. I barely ever looked at ingredients too, I didn't know how bad a lot of things are. Also, calorie counting was a thing I never did. I've started on Keto in Mid April when I was weighing 200 pounds, I also did IF straight away and went to OMAD within a few days, as due to my job I was kind of used to not eating for 12hours+ at a time. Healthwise, it's hard to tell due to Sarcoidosis and Ulcerative Colitis. However, I'm not bloated and "gassy" anymore, ever, which before I was almost all day, and together with the colitis, it was hell. My joints also seem better than before! My current keto diet is usually pretty mixed up. Since there are many Keto recipes on youtube, I tend to make whatever I feel like that day. I like to make Keto bread at the start of the week, and then make some scrambled eggs to eat to it, fried fish, or apply meat paste onto my bread with tomato slices on top and salt it(Try it, it's amazing). Other days I make Keto Pizza or Keto Spaghetti with ground beef and lots more. Also lots of veggies! I am now at 160 pounds and I haven't enjoyed looking into the mirror-like this in over 10years. At first, I made a few mistakes too, I starved myself of calories, not on purpose, I just didn't know how to count calories, and I didn't stock up on all the good things right away that are easy to use, like nutritional yeast! If someone were to start on the Keto diet, I'd definitely recommend learning all about vitamins and nutrition from Dr. Berg's videos first. Ban all the junk food from the house and don't just hide it away. And checking out all the Keto youtube channels is a huge thing! There are a lot of good meals to create! There are TONS of nice people on youtube that upload yummy recipes, on Keto we don't have to abstain from yummy food at all! There are recipes for Lasagna, Spaghetti, Pizza, marble cake, muffins, and so much more! There's also a really clever guy that tried out 50 different pizza dough variants until he finally found something that tastes almost like regular Pizza dough. At first, I thought Keto would be very boring and stale. But I soon realized that there are so many meals(and Cake!) to make. And food that I barely ate before now suddenly tastes far more flavorful.
