Total Time: 45 minutes

Serves: 4

Per serving: 700 calories, 16 g protein, 4 g carbohydrates, 69 g fat

Ingredients

For sausage gravy:

1 lb organic pork sausage

1 Tbsp butter

1 cup heavy cream

1/4 cup cream cheese

For biscuits:

1 1/2 cups almond flour

1 Tbsp baking powder

1/2 tsp garlic powder

2 large eggs

1/2 cup cheddar cheese

1/3 cup sour cream

1/4 cup butter, melted

salt

Directions:

  1. Cut pork sausage into small chunks and cook in a pan over medium heat until browned and cooked through.

  2. Once fully cooked, place sausage on a paper towel to soak up excess fat.

  3. In a separate saucepot, melt butter over medium heat. Add keto sausage and stir to combine.

  4. Gradually add heavy cream and cream cheese, stirring until mixture is well combined and thickened.

For biscuits:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F / 175 degrees C.

  2. Combine almond flour, baking powder, and garlic powder in a mixing bowl.

  3. Add eggs, cheddar cheese, sour cream, melted butter, and a pinch of salt. Mix until a dough forms.

  4. Using molds or a muffin tray, shape dough into biscuits and place on a baking sheet.

  5. Bake for 25 minutes until biscuits are golden brown.

  6. Once biscuits are done, cut them in half and serve with sausage gravy spooned over top.

Recipe tips:

  • You can adjust the amount of heavy cream and cream cheese to reach your desired consistency for the keto gravy.

  • Use spicy ground pork sausage or add red pepper flakes to the gravy for a spicier version.

  • Let the biscuits cool slightly before cutting them in half, as they can crumble if cut too soon.

  • Your leftover keto sausage gravy can be stored in the fridge for up to four days and reheated on the stovetop.

  • Use xanthan gum as a thickening agent if you prefer a thicker gravy.

  • Add organic beef or chicken broth to the gravy for added flavor.

Start your day right with this creamy and hearty keto sausage gravy. Made with pork sausage, heavy cream, and cream cheese, this gravy recipe is sure to keep you satiated.

Serve it over homemade almond flour biscuits for a low-carb twist on a classic Southern dish that won't raise blood sugar levels.

Why you’ll love this keto recipe

Finding a low-carb sausage gravy recipe that's as indulgent as the original version can be challenging. This keto version lets you enjoy all the traditional flavors without added carbs.

Almond flour substitutes traditional flour, offering a low-carb and gluten-free option for those with celiac disease or wheat sensitivity.

Meanwhile, the cream cheese and heavy cream add richness and creaminess to the gravy. These ingredients are also rich sources of healthy fats that provide energy and will keep your body in ketosis.

In addition, research published in Springer found dairy products to be a great source of highly bioavailable calcium. The study further explains that consuming three servings of dairy daily can ensure calcium intake recommendations are met.

This recipe can also be personalized to your taste preferences by using different types of sausage or experimenting with your favorite herbs and spices.

What type of sausage is best for keto sausage gravy?

When creating the perfect keto sausage gravy, the type of sausage you choose plays a pivotal role in flavor and nutritional value.

Pork sausages labeled breakfast sausage are a popular choice. However, conventional products often contain preservatives that can cause digestive issues or sensitivities.

Opting for organic meat is generally considered a better choice as it has a higher nutrient content and is less likely to contain additives.

"Choose grass-finished, organic options that are 100 percent certified to ensure a higher omega-3 fatty acid content. These health-promoting fats help reduce inflammation and support heart health," explains Dr. Berg.

Chicken or turkey sausage can also be an excellent choice. Poultry sausages usually have a lower fat content but taste great if properly seasoned.

When choosing sausages, always check the ingredients label and choose a low-carb product that contains minimal ingredients.

Placing biscuit in the oven

Storing and reheating tips

To maintain the freshness and quality of this dish, store leftover sausage gravy and biscuits separately in airtight containers.

These keto biscuits can be stored for up to five days, while the gravy lasts four days in the refrigerator.

When reheating, place the biscuits on a baking sheet and warm them in the oven at 350 degrees F / 175 degrees C for five to seven minutes.

To reheat the gravy, gently warm it on the stovetop over low heat, stirring occasionally to prevent burning.

If the gravy thickens too much upon reheating, add a splash of water or broth to achieve the desired consistency.
