Total Time: 30 minutes

Serves: 4

Per serving: 339 calories, 17.6 g protein, 2.5 g carbohydrates, 29.3 g fat

Ingredients

1 cup cheddar cheese, grated

½ cup seasoned cooked ground beef

½ cup romaine lettuce

¼ cup tomato, chopped

4 Tbsp cheddar cheese

3 tsp sour cream

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F / 175 degrees C. Prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.

  2. Spread one cup of grated cheddar cheese evenly on a baking sheet, dividing it into three rounds that are approximately three inches in diameter.

  3. Bake cheese taco shells for seven to ten minutes until edges start to become golden brown.

  4. Take out from oven and let cool for two minutes. Then, remove from baking sheet and carefully fold them in half to create taco shells. For added stability, place shells in taco stands.

  5. Scoop cooked and seasoned meat into shells. Top with lettuce, diced tomatoes, remaining shredded cheddar cheese, and a dollop of sour cream.

  6. Serve and enjoy delicious Keto Tacos!

Recipe tips:

  • Add spicy jalapeños or hot sauce for an extra kick of heat.

  • Ground turkey, chicken, or pork are excellent taco meat options to replace ground beef.

  • Create your own Keto Taco seasoning using chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, and onion powder.

  • The taco shell can be made with other types of cheese, such as mozzarella or pepper jack, for a different flavor profile.

  • If you prefer soft taco shells, reduce the cooking time and shape the melted cheese over a rolling pin or other cylindrical object.

Keto Tacos Recipe

Make Taco Tuesdays even better with these delectable Keto Tacos!

With a crispy cheddar cheese shell and flavorful seasoned grass-fed ground beef, these low-carb tacos are the perfect alternative to traditional tacos without the added carbs.

They take just 30 minutes to make, so you can enjoy tacos any day of the week.

Why you’ll love this keto-friendly recipe

If you love Mexican food and are following a keto lifestyle, these tacos are the perfect meal.

Unlike traditional tacos, which are typically made with corn or wheat flour, this recipe creates crispy cheese shells that won't raise your blood sugar levels or kick you out of ketosis

"Consuming wheat flour can cause inflammation and digestive discomfort," explains Dr. Berg. "Wheat flour is also high in carbs and has a glycemic index of 70 to 85, indicating that it causes blood sugar spikes and can quickly kick you out of ketosis."

In contrast, these taco shells are made from shredded cheese and form a crispy base for your beef tacos that won’t raise blood sugar levels or interfere with fat-burning.

These Keto Tacos are filled with seasoned cooked ground beef, romaine lettuce, and chopped tomatoes, offering a satisfying bite and delightful flavor profile.

It’s best to use grass-fed ground beef to add high-quality protein and essential B vitamins, including vitamins B3, B6, and B12.

Research published in Foods found that beef from cattle raised on pasture-based diets has a more nutritious fatty acid profile than beef products from cattle raised on grain-containing fodder.

The study further found pasture-raised beef contains significantly higher levels of omega-3 fatty acids, including health-promoting eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid

acid (DHA) compared to grain-fed beef.

This Keto Taco recipe, topped with cheddar cheese and sour cream, is sure to satisfy your Mexican food cravings while offering plenty of nutrients and keeping you in fat-burning mode.

Variations

If you're looking to switch things up, you can try plenty of different variations with this Keto Taco recipe.

Here are a few ideas to get you started:

  • Instead of baking the cheese into taco shells, use lettuce or cabbage wraps.

  • For an alternative protein source, substitute grass-fed, organic ground beef with pork, chicken, fish, or shrimp.

  • Add guacamole or sliced avocado to your tacos to boost your healthy fat intake.

  • Substitute traditional sour cream with full-fat Greek yogurt for a tangy twist.

  • Make it vegetarian by stuffing cheese shells with seasoned roasted vegetables or tofu instead of ground beef.

  • To make a delicious taco salad, combine all the ingredients with Keto Tortilla Chips and toss in an olive oil and red wine vinegar dressing.

Cooking ground beef

Storing and reheating tips

To maintain the freshness and taste of your tacos, refrigerate the shells and fillings separately in airtight containers for up to four days.

When you're ready to enjoy your tacos, simply reheat the cheese shells in the toaster oven until they're warm and crispy. Avoid using the microwave, as it can make the shells chewy.

Warm up the grass-fed ground beef in a pan over medium heat, and then assemble your tacos with your favorite low-carb toppings.
