Total Time: 40 minutes
Serves: 8
Per serving: 124 calories, 7.6 g protein, 11.3 g carbohydrates, 7.6 g fat
Ingredients
6 slices bacon
1 large sweet onion, chopped
4 cloves garlic, minced
1½ tsp sea salt
½ tsp paprika
¼ tsp black pepper
1 large head of cabbage, shredded
Directions:
In a large saute pan, cook bacon over medium heat until browned. Once done, remove bacon, leaving grease in pan.
Add onion to pan and fry for ten minutes until browned.
Create a well in center of pan and add minced garlic. Saute for about a minute, then mix in with onions. Season with salt, paprika, and pepper.
Add cabbage to pan and cook for 15 to 25 minutes until tender, adding in batches if necessary.
While cabbage is cooking, chop or crumble cooked bacon. Once cabbage is done, stir in crispy bacon.
Serve hot and enjoy!
Recipe tips:
Turkey bacon can be substituted for pork bacon.
For a more aromatic flavor, add red pepper flakes, onion powder, garlic powder, or cumin.
Use a slotted spoon to remove the bacon grease from the pan and drain on a paper towel to avoid clogging your sink drain.
You can save bacon fat to use for other dishes, such as frying eggs or seasoning vegetables.

This classic comfort food can be served on any occasion, whether it's a quick weeknight dinner or a hearty side dish for a family gathering.

This Fried Cabbage with Bacon dish might just become your new favorite if you are looking for delicious low-carb recipe ideas.
Not only is it full of flavor, but it’s also easy to make and can be enjoyed as a main course or served as a savory side dish.
This bacon-fried cabbage recipe combines the natural sweetness of cabbage with the rich, smoky flavor of bacon, making every bite a delight.
It’s best to use pasture-raised, organic bacon as it’s a rich source of healthy fats that are beneficial for heart health.
"Compared to conventional meat, pasture-raised protein contains higher levels of omega-3 fatty acids and lower levels of omega-6 fatty acids," explains Dr. Berg. "The ratio of omega-3 to omega-6 fatty acids is important as omega-6 fats can promote inflammation, while omega-3 fats have anti-inflammatory properties."
What's more, the addition of caramelized onions and garlic provides a delightful savory element, while the spices add depth and aroma to this dish.
All ingredients in this recipe are naturally gluten-free, making it a great choice for those with gluten sensitivities or celiac disease.
While the total carb count of 11.3 grams per serving may seem high, cabbage contains plenty of dietary fiber, resulting in a net carb count of just over five grams per serving.
Given its numerous nutritional benefits and low net carb count, it's no surprise that this flavorful dish makes an excellent choice for a hearty keto-friendly family dinner or meal prep.
Health benefits of cabbage
Cabbage is a popular vegetable used in many cultures and cuisines, and for good reasons.
Not only is it budget-friendly and versatile, but it’s also linked to various impressive health benefits.
Research published in Nutritional Composition and Antioxidant Properties of Fruits and Vegetables found that this cruciferous vegetable can help lower the risk of certain cancers, heart disease, cataracts, Alzheimer's disease, and diabetes.
This is mainly due to its rich array of nutrients, including antioxidants and phytochemicals, such as vitamin E, carotenoids, glucosinolates, isothiocyanates, and phenolic compounds.
These compounds aid in neutralizing free radicals, which helps reduce inflammation and can protect the body from oxidative stress.
Moreover, cabbage is an excellent source of vitamin C, providing over 50 percent of the recommended daily intake in just one cup.
Vitamin C is an essential nutrient that helps support immune function, skin health, and wound healing.
Cabbage is also low in calories and carbohydrates, making it a great addition to any weight loss or weight management plan.
