Benefits of having eggs for breakfast

Benefiting your health in numerous ways, the consumption of eggs provides an excellent source of protein and healthy fats.

Eggs are keto-approved, and there are plenty of recipes to discover that involve this nutritious keto staple.

Research published in Nutrients found that eggs are a rich source of choline, folate, vitamin D, iodine, B vitamins, and high-quality protein. They're also considered safe and not associated with an increased risk of high cholesterol or cardiovascular disease (CVD), as many people mistakenly assume.

How to choose quality eggs

Choosing high-quality eggs is vital for both taste and nutrition.

The best option is pasture-raised eggs from chickens raised on a natural diet. These eggs typically contain significantly higher levels of essential nutrients, including vitamin E, beta-carotene, and omega-3 fatty acids.

It’s recommended to avoid eggs from chickens fed a diet high in soy and corn, which can be detrimental to the nutrient profile of the egg.

How to choose healthy hot dogs

Commercial hot dogs are generally not considered healthy due to their high sodium, low-grade meat, and preservative content.

"Edible byproducts such as mechanically deboned meats, pork, poultry trimmings, and other scraps are often used in making hot dogs," explains Dr. Berg. "These animals are frequently subjected to poor living conditions and fed GMO feed, resulting in meat with nutritionally and ethically inferior quality.”

Instead, opt for grass-fed and organic hot dogs from humanely raised animals fed a natural diet. Look for brands that use sea salt and celery powder as a seasoning, and steer clear of products with high fructose corn syrup, dextrose, and other artificial ingredients.

FAQ

1. Are eggs and hotdogs a healthy breakfast?

Yes, eggs and hotdogs can be a healthy breakfast choice. However, it’s important to choose pasture-raised eggs and organic, grass-fed hot dogs to avoid poor-quality ingredients.

2. What are the best eggs to buy?

Pasture-raised eggs are the best choice, as they come from chickens that roam freely and feed on their natural diet. These eggs tend to contain more nutrients than eggs from hens raised in large commercial livestock operations.

3. How many calories are in an egg and a hot dog?

One serving of this egg and hot dog recipe contains 605 calories, which includes one hot dog, two eggs, and half an avocado, as well as some calories from ingredients in the keto-friendly kale shake.

4. Where does huevos con salchicha come from?

Huevos con salchicha, or eggs and hot dogs, is a traditional Mexican dish. It’s typically served for breakfast or brunch and has become a popular dish due to its simplicity and mouthwatering taste.

However, huevos con salchicha is typically fried in vegetable oil and served with refried beans and tortillas, which aren't keto-friendly.

5. What low-carb fruits are best for a kale shake?

Some of the best low-carb kale shake fruits include strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries.

These berries are high in antioxidants and add natural sweetness without the need for sugar. Other options include avocado, which provides creaminess and healthy fats, or fresh lemon juice.
