Recipe tips:

  • Depending on your oven, bacon may cook faster or slower. Keep an eye on it after 15 minutes to avoid burning.

  • Don't use white chocolate or milk chocolate, as they contain added sugars that could kick you out of ketosis.

  • If you prefer dark chocolate over cocoa powder, opt for unsweetened dark chocolate with at least 85 percent cocoa.

  • Add your personal touch with additional toppings such as chopped nuts, shredded unsweetened coconut, or dark chocolate chips.

  • If chocolate becomes too thick, include extra coconut oil until it reaches your desired consistency.

Take your bacon obsession to the next level with this indulgent keto chocolate-covered bacon recipe. The combination of crispy, salty, and sweet creates the perfect treat to satisfy cravings.

With only four ingredients and minimal prep time, it’s an easy-to-make dessert option that won't interfere with fat-burning or disrupt ketosis.

Here are some reasons why you will love this recipe:

And what’s more, if you like a spicy touch, this delectable chocolate-dipped bacon can be personalized by adding a pinch of cayenne pepper to the chocolate mixture.

You can also sprinkle sea salt on top for more crunch and a burst of flavor. If you love a tangy taste, add lemon or orange zest to the melted chocolate before dipping in the bacon.

To keep this recipe keto-friendly, avoid sugary toppings such as sprinkles, candy pieces, or white chocolate chips.

How to choose high-quality bacon

Most commercially prepared bacon contains additives and preservatives that may be harmful and are packed with syrups or sugars that can disrupt ketosis.

Many products claim their bacon strips are all-natural, without antibiotics or added hormones. However, food labels can be misleading, and these claims may not always be accurate.

"Look for organic bacon made from ethically raised animals. This ensures the highest quality of meat without free of potentially harmful substances. Also, check that the carb content is under one gram per serving to prevent spiking insulin," explains Dr. Berg.

If you have access to a farmers market, consider purchasing thick-sliced bacon from local farmers, as they often offer superior quality meats that have been minimally processed.

Is bacon good for you?

The answer depends on the quality of the bacon and how often it's consumed. While processed bacon can contain harmful additives, high-quality, organic bacon strips can be a nutritious addition to a low-carb diet.

A study in The Journal of Nutrition revealed that certain foods, including bacon, are rich sources of choline, an essential nutrient needed for various physiological functions.

Choline promotes cell health and brain function. In addition, choline helps regulate homocysteine levels, which promotes a healthy heart and lowers the risk of cardiovascular disease

High-quality bacon can be beneficial and even aid in weight loss when consumed in moderation.

"Bacon helps you stay full longer without raising blood glucose levels," explains Dr. Berg. "It's also a natural source of monounsaturated fat, essential for hormone production and brain function."

Additionally, bacon is packed with vitamins B1, B2, B3, and B6 and essential minerals such as magnesium, iron, and potassium. Bacon is a nutrient-dense food and an excellent option for a nutritious high-fat diet such as Healthy Keto®

Storage tips

Store any leftover cooked bacon chocolate in an airtight container in the refrigerator. It can last up to four days, but let's be honest—it probably won't survive that long!

For extended storage, wrap bacon in wax paper, place it in a freezer-safe bag, and freeze it for up to six months.

When ready to consume, defrost bacon in the refrigerator or keep it at room temperature for a few hours.

Key takeaways

This keto chocolate-covered bacon recipe contains dark chocolate and organic thick-cut bacon that'll indulge your cravings while keeping you in fat-burning mode.

When choosing bacon, look for high-quality, pasture-raised options with less than one gram of carbohydrate per serving.
