Type II D, a success story (in progress)

Story

By: Tommy

Last December, right after Christmas, I had a doctors appointment. The food I had for Christmas, and the following days, had my type 2 diabetes spike at my doctor's appointment above 500. The doctor wanted me to take a new medicine, I'm on Metformin, and didn't want to take anything new. I'm not really a fan of taking new medicines at all or depending on pharmaceuticals for anything. It seems dangerous to me to depend on something man-made like that; not only for reasons of business models being the bottom line of companies instead of the patient but in the case of shortages or some unforeseen events that may cause shortages in something that I had become dependent on. Anyway, I told my doctor that I would like to give it one more shot, through dieting, to lower my blood sugars. My doctor replied "You can't do it." with somewhat of an upset and forceful tone; which pushed me even more to try, as my doctor tried harder to push the new medication on me. (Perhaps that is a flaw in me, that stubbornness, but for this time, I'm glad I have it.) After getting home, and starting slowly over the next week, or two, to change my food habits, I discovered Keto, through Dr. Berg (and another YouTuber, Thomas Delauer) and with that, intermittent fasting. While Delauer information does help, Dr Berg, and all his website information and learning tools really helped me deep dive into not only Keto, but my health over all. It took easily a month, or more, before I became adapted. I started badly, but with purpose, so I stuck to it. My AC1 last December hit 10+ for the first time, three months later, after doing Keto and IF with the help of Dr Berg, and all the information, I was able to get my AC1 down to 6.3. It's been almost 6 months now and have another Doctors appointment in 2 weeks. Last time I had my AC1 checked they just took my blood, and sent me on my way. This time I'm supposed to see my doctor for an actual check up. I hope she isn't mad that I was able to do better with Keto, and not a new prescription. I'm still learning what it takes, and what my body requires, specifically to my bodies biome needs. But I believe every day is a better day for that biome, as I learn from my own mistakes, tests, trials, and research like I get from here. Thank you Dr Berg, and the entire community. I can't say how much this has greatly improved my actual life. Thank you!
