On Our Way
By: Kathryn Storts
Dear Dr. Berg, It is with profound gratitude & thanks that I write to you and your entire team!
You seem to be growing like gangbusters and I credit it to my great fortune to have found you! We live on the East coast of Central Florida. My household consists of 3, sometimes 4 people: My grandson Jaden who graduated high school in May and will be leaving for basic training with the USMC in October. My 42-year-old son Andy, who was born with Down Syndrome. He is all about getting healthier until I dip into his portion size. I think that's one of the reasons he loves salads so much, I heap them fully with about 4 to 5 cups of cut-up baby spring mix and romaine lettuce, adding a variety of other veggies, craisins, meats, and boiled eggs. Finding a healthy dressing is proving to be a challenge. Andy struggles with possibly a yeast inflammation?? His face is beet red after he shaves and often inflamed and sometimes cracked around his mouth where it stays pretty moist. Andy, Jaden & I eat once maybe twice a day.
Myself, let's just say I too am disabled. I am diagnosed with: bipolar with schizophrenic tendencies and major depression, I tried my psychiatrist's recipe for five years. When we got to medicating the medication 4 times out I said enough and weaned myself off the meds over a period of about a year.
That was about 18 years ago.
I also struggle with back and shoulder issues. Personally, I believe the shoulder thing to be a gallbladder issue. For the past 2 years, I have been working diligently to boost my entire family's immunity while speaking passionately about personal responsibility to everyone that will listen, even those that don't care to hear about it, while also seeking a healthier way of life. Both topics segue nicely into each other.
My part-time 4th member is my daughter Allison who has had many long-term successes overcoming her addiction to heroin. She developed this addiction after her second shoulder surgery (due to an automobile accident) when she became addicted to painkillers. She made her doctor aware of her addiction after she started NA and she did very well with her following third and fourth surgeries. She has been in recovery for just over a year with only one recurrence that I'm aware of. In my Narc-Anon program, we tout progress, not perfection & practice makes progress. Allison is beautiful, smart, funny, so genuine, and often delightful to be with. She is also sometimes very angry. She sometimes has bouts with abscesses and right now suffers with pinched nerves in her neck, I believe due to the accident. She has started a new job and is struggling immensely with tingling and numbness in her hands and arms accompanied with a lot of pain, to where she can't sleep through the night. So that's the introduction to the health-related concerns in my life.
MY SUCCESS: I am committed to building the keto lifestyle. Andy and I have started taking short walks and practice IF. I stopped all Tylenol, lidoderm patches, Pepcid ac, and pain medication about 4 months ago. I have incorporated healthy oils, avocado & coconut into our diet. Cut out all intentional sugars and carbs... I'm scrutinizing labels. Transitioned to plant stevia powder last month and love it. We have beefed-up supplements and vitamins. We are transitioning to all gmo-free organic and grass-fed everything (as much as possible). I am gradually building my pantry with the sweeteners and flours that are keto recommended. We are embarking on finding a good kimchi recipe. One of your followers recommended Maangchis (sp?) so that's where we're starting.
We are also going to try our hand with fermentation this month and sauerkraut. I'm hoping to find some salad dressing recipes to incorporate the fermented juice into.
So Dr. Berg, that's our success story thus far. We have made a lot of decisions and made some foundational implementations. Plus we have a plan! I would still like to purchase some health monitoring tools: bp cuff, blood sugar reader, and the urine strips. We will begin with weight and body temperature the beginning of July.
Surely you know by the low stock and out of stock notations of products on your website how valuable your information is to everyone following you. You and Karen & your team really touch us in a deeply personal way and we are forever better because we found you. With profound gratitude, for helping me to have my family healthier. Kindest regards, Kathryn
