My name is Frik. I'm 48 and from South Africa. I discovered Dr. Berg's YouTube channel while researching the most effective way to lose weight mainly looking at exercise channels. I've walked and jogged with my dogs for more than a year and a half only to lose 21kg (46.3lb) my diet was a western diet consisting of sugars, starches, safflower oils all the highly processed foods mostly cooked, fried, or baked for the majority of my life. I was suffering from inflammation, gout, Asthma, hypertension, and depression for many years using mainstream advice and treatments and medications to treat the symptoms but not the cause.

I think I've almost watched all of Dr. Berg's YouTube videos and have learned a lot about how my body responds to proper nutrition. I've also implemented intermittent fasting and long-term water fast.

I also do HIIT mainly walking, jogging, and running as well as mobility exercises like yoga and calisthenics. I have increased my maximum heart rate from 150bpm to 170bpm and my resting heart rate from 88 to 58bpm. Besides the massive weight loss in such a short time literally 7 months, I've improved my health a 100 pounds and haven't used any medication for my diagnosed chronic conditions that were caused by my metabolic disease. My depression is gone, my blood pressure has been stable for the past 6 months and I haven't had asthma, arthritis, or gout yet. The only problem now is I spend a lot more money on buying clothes to fit the new me.

I started 1st October 2021 on the keto diet with a carnivore diet and soon realized that I do better on a raw vegetable main course and fewer meat proteins as the vegetable nutrient quality outways that of our meats. I occasionally have alcohol and refined foods but that doesn't even taste as good as I remember. My advice to people is I don't do it to live longer but to live better.

The first month or so I didn't lose much weight mostly I think because my body's nutrients were way out of balance and I was still figuring out what works better for me I find that the high fiber content in eating raw vegetables works for me. The spices that I add also give more nutrients and flavor to my food. Also, a variety of vegetables, proteins, and good fats are key but I keep in mind the calorie density so I limit the animal proteins and fats over a weekly deficit of more than half my daily allowance as I get enough nutrients via the raw veg and when I do long fasts for autophagy and to brake a Plato.
