Health problem resolved in 11 weeks

In March I always needed sugary, stimulant drinks in order to have the energy to walk with my dog. My energy levels varied widely, I was sleeping a lot, and food did not satisfy me. I did internet searches about diabetes and physiology, and then YouTube offered a video by Eric Berg about the Ketogenic diet and fasting. His talk knocked me over in the way it spoke about data that I knew, but went so much further in cogently joining the dots and in so doing, knocking out misinformation. I went onto Healthy Keto straight away and immediately threw out my sugar, jams, potatoes, and other carbs. I had thought that my diet was healthy - lots of orange juice, lots of fruit, the stimulant drink that I seemed to depend on, pizzas, baked potatoes... One main meal in the mornings and a small snack in the late afternoon. And only half a teaspoonful of sugar per day on my coffee. Healthy, right? So conventional advice advises. Within 24 hrs of starting keto, my body screamed that the stimulant drink was too strong. Wow! Within a week of starting, I felt no great need for carb supplements, but my energy level was fluctuating. Energy seemed to be helped by large doses of supplementary minerals - I reckoned I was deficient due to former junk food, so took them almost as much as recommended. It took about 3..4 weeks for my body to get used to those lovely big salads and to regain normal bowel movements. In the first week, I had drunk too little water, which remedied as I tweaked my diet to make it work. Over 10 weeks I was experiencing strongly fluctuating energy levels and whilst I do shorter or longer walks with my dog to suit, basically, I felt I just had to put up with them. I had had them before starting the diet anyway. Then in the 11th week, I noticed a distinct change: my energy level was constant: I was no longer sleepy during the day: was producing less pee at night, and was not getting up to answer calls of nature. So the Insulin Resistance ended for me in the 11th week - and I had had it for many years. My daily fare is vitamin pills and mineral supplements for breakfast, plus about 1 liter of water as coffee, salt drink, and mineral water. After walking my dog for an hour I eat 1 liter of salad (I pre-prepare enough for about 4 days). Then I fry up bacon or a burger patty, plus onions &/or mushrooms, and often add a couple of eggs. At first, I drank my kale smoothie with my breakfast, but as time went on I saved that to drink in mid-afternoon, with also some peanuts or nuts. I walk my dog 3x a day, totaling about 8..10 miles per day if the weather is dry (less if it is wet.) So here in mid-June, 12 weeks after starting keto my energy level is steady, strong and dependent on nothing. My keto diet is pleasant and high quality and will be continued indefinitely because it is so obviously benefitting me. My weight started at 94 kg, decreased to my "set weight of 88 kg" and stayed there for several weeks, then started decreasing again, now standing at 85 kg. (If I can I will let it drift down to 77 kg which was my weight as an active 30-something. (I am 67 years old). I don't know about mistakes on keto - have basically muddled along mostly guided by the YouTube vids. Mistakes I made were prior to keto with listening to grossly misleading dietary advice coming from the doctors and healthy eating pundits. All their advice was about low fat, low calorie, eat often, have plenty of fruit as part of 5-a-day... It was conventional advice that got me into my physiological difficulties, not Healthy Keto. My advice to others comes in form of comparing notes. People who have already done diets or have any metabolic disorder diseases perk their ears up with what I have to say. And they comment that I am dramatically slimmer. Thank You to Eric Berg and his supporting team - you are a lifesaver! Peter
