Abdul Hannan's Story
By: Abdul Hannan
Abdul Hannan was overweight for 13 years after an eye surgery in fifth grade put him on bed rest for two months. The medications he was given increased his appetite and his state of inactivity continued for many years beyond the surgery.
“Due to my hectic engineering study schedule I was unable to exercise, play or do physical activities because I was always busy in studies, assignments, projects, etc.,” he said. “I tried various diets and also hit the gym but with very little to no success in my physical structure.”
When his weight reached 231 pounds (105 kg) he hit the point of frustration. He was completely fed up with his physical condition. This prompted his keto journey.
In the first ten days of keto, Abdul Hannan lost 15 pounds (7 kg), an accomplishment that was incredibly encouraging for him. When he found Dr. Berg’s videos things improved further.
“I was impressed by Dr. Berg’s videos the most because of his explanation of the real science behind how each and everything in keto works,” he said. “Of course, it is important to understand the science behind how things work in order to do it perfectly. As a student who studied science, including biology, it was pretty easy for me to grasp the knowledge given by Dr. Berg.”
The hardest part for Abdul Hannan was hitting a plateau and dealing with keto rash. Since he was eating things that produced heat during metabolism, as well as living in the hot, humid climate of Mumbai, India, the rash was difficult to deal with.
Still, his “happiness knew no bounds” because he was seeing results. Since nothing else had worked for him before, the fact that keto was working encouraged him to continue.
With the support of Dr. Berg’s videos and the Indian keto recipes he found on Headbanger’s Kitchen YouTube channel, he was able to stick to the keto way of eating. In five months Abdul Hannan lost 66 pounds (30 kg) and achieved his goal weight of 165 pounds (75 kg) — which he has been able to maintain.
“I feel alive and well,” he said. “I feel like I have woken up from a very unhealthy nightmare. The most important thing is that I feel satisfied with what I have achieved.”
