Unexpected success
By: Sarah Leon
There's no personal trainer that is more effective than pain. I was bedridden in my 20's with MS. My medications were like a bag of skittles and I went crazy from constant pain and increasingly awful symptoms. I didn't have a moment of clarity to change my diet, but I slowly lost my faith in the treatment. I started with lifestyle changes but I didn't know what I was doing. I took long walks even if I often fell. I started reading about the food I ate and slowly eliminating toxins like corn syrup, and all diet food. The improvement was enough to end several drugs. I also launched myself into a ton of misguided but useful progress, but I was still very sick. In my mid 30's, I grew much stronger, and off medication. My pain was so low that no one knew I was sick at my new job but my health was only ok. skipping ahead many years I finally found Dr. Berg. My friend had to drag me into keto. Without his help and the help of Dr. Berg's videos, I would not have been able to do it. After the uncomfortable 2 weeks, I felt fantastic. I drop weight so fast I lost hair, but all my blood work was excellent. My MRI proved that even though, I had stopped all medication, the MS was completely inactive. The only thing I was low in was salt. I wasn't even counting my macros. I was still making mistakes. Some days I had a few too many carbs but healthy keto's rewards outweigh the difficulties. Life can get unpredictably hard. I had several severe stressors. I fell off the wagon with stress eating, my pants were too tight and I felt miserable.
Looking back, I should have gained a lot more weight and suffered a relapse but I didn't. Maybe it was because I watched Dr. Berg's videos while eating chips, can't say. More likely because it's more than weight, I was healthier. This is the biggest part of my story. My changes had lasting effects beyond my waistline. I pulled it together. I announced that in 2021, I was going to launch my "save the pants campaign". I began with fasting, then increased the density of my nutrients, exercise, and restrictions. The transition wasn't difficult and I trust it to return to better health. I am so grateful for having the tools to live a better life.
