Roux en y
By: Frank Tardiff
In 2008, I was 480lbs and couldn’t walk. Knew nothing of Keto or I would have tried it. I was on 13 medications. August 24, 2009, I had Roux en Y gastric bypass. 7 days after surgery, I had an upper GI bleed, something failed. Passed 2 units of blood. My local hospital refused to treat me and transported me to the hospital that conducted my surgery, Princeton hospital. While in transport I flatlined, paddles were used. Apparently, I declined a blood transfusion after they read me the warnings list, I must have been delirious. After a 12-days stay, I was sent home. After 180 days, I dropped to 163 lbs because eating hurt so bad.
Fast forward, I am 218lbs at 6’2”. I have had to self-medicate through food and supplements because the aftercare for roux en y patients is abysmal. My surgeon isn’t covered through my insurance anymore. And the annual appointment would be $380 out of pocket. Through it all, your channel and a few others have helped me to defeat/manage the malabsorption created through this surgery. I am a success not because of my surgery but because of the nutritional changes I have made.
