My Journey
By: Inez Floyd
I wanted to share with those of you who might be interested in my journey of getting healthy.
I will be adding bits and pieces from my journal entry of “Change of Life”.
“I decided to change some of my life style at the beginning of 2021 (began thinking about it around Thanksgiving 2020). I wanted to feel strong and healthy again, I wanted to be thin. I was old as an 83 to 90 year old woman. What motivated me to do this; -the pain I was having because of the weight -a friend from Woody Island who is the same age as me, 71 years old, had lost a lot of weight and then -seeing the Prophets and most of them were healthy and thin. I wanted to be like them.
The worst part is I had done yo yo dieting all my life to no avail. I did not want to go thru that again. So I took what was in my head on weight management and exercises that I physically could do and started my new life style, with the help of prayer from Heavenly Father. Not a diet, a change. The change began with eating only 1400 calories per day. Why 1400, because I wanted to weight 140 lbs. You multiply that by 10 and that’s your limit. My goal was to loose 50 lbs this year and to exercise. My exercise plan was to be able to do a 2 min plank for core strengthening and some stretch exercises to limber me up and that worked until I hurt my back again. Once my back healed, I started walking. I started out at 10 min. p/d and have now increased it to 40 min a day.
I have no disc’s in my 5th lumbar, 50% in my 4th and 70% in my 3rd. Hence no walking on cement, only soft impact areas. I also started by cutting out flour, sugar and most high carb foods, limited my carbs to 50 grams. By doing so I had lost 15 lbs, by March.
I plateaued a couple of weeks, but kept with my plan. Then I started loosing again by the end of March. I lost about 1.5 lbs per week until about the last week in May. Then I plateaued again until the middle of June, meanwhile maintaining my weight level with the diet plan.
I was pretty frustrated by this lengthy plateau. I had heard about Dr. Eric Berg from my brother, Ernie and my daughter Heather. So I checked into his plan, which included intermittent fasting, I thought no way was I gona do that, and ketogenics diet. Well his concept is about getting healthy and when you do the weight will go down. Well no further weight loss brought me to be more humble and accepting of his plan.
I started his intermittent fasting and ketogenic diet. That journey was very enlightening and these are the results of it so far: As of this week, 17 September 2022, I have lost 80 lbs. I am happy. Neurological symptoms gone from feet and right arm/hands. Brain fog gone, cognitive thinking and memory is so much better, like when I was young. I used to have classic migraine (auras) with horrendous headaches, nausea and vomiting, two to three times a year. Now when I have the auras, no more headaches, nausea and vomiting. This has been so amazing. Notice that my saggy skin is also disappearing, which I was afraid I would have for the rest of my life. Continual sinus infection is gone with no recurrence Horizontal fissures gone from my tongue, it looks pretty again, lol. No bouts of depression…. Woot!!!
Skin tags and aging spots are disappearing, sweet! I forgot about Acid Reflux (Gerds), hernia. None, nada, gone. Belly fat is disappearing and I can see my feet. Itching in private area and rectum, gone!!! No more yeast infections. No more UTI’s, used to have 3 to 4 a year and now I have had none. I no longer have pains in my abdomen area. My bowls have balanced out and improved tremendously. Another great thing is that all my aches and pains have subsided from 6-9, to 0-3. Love that.
Most encouraging is I have energy, tons of energy, I can do things that I have not done for years and endure. I am now walking 40 minutes on road, not cement. Just love it.” 28 October 2022 I had watched one of Dr. Eric Berg’s videos several weeks ago and he said that intermittent fasting can remove varicose and spider veins. I just shrugged it off, but today I looked at the inside of my ankle areas and my spider veins are disappearing. So stoked. 21 May 2023 So this year has been a little slow. So far I have lost only 12lbs, was hoping to get 30 more this year, but I don’t think it’s going to happen. The program I am doing is still ketogenics and IF, OMAD meal within two hours to 4 hours. Been doing about 19 to 27 gms of carbs.
Fat at 60%, increased that, and about 4-6 oz of protein. I do a 40 minute walk about 2 miles worth. I am able to not get caught up in my families style of eating. It does get hard at times, but so far I am able to plow thru it. I’m hoping for a miracle to get the next 30 lbs off. Getting discouraged at times.
