Leveraging knowledge to attain a healthier state

Story

By: Gilles Milaire

I can vouch that if you want to be healthy and happy, well you can't go wrong with Dr. Berg. Thanks to his excellent videos. I learned how to do safe healthy keto and intermittent fasting. After two months, my blood work was fabulous, my blood pressure was perfect and I now weigh what I did in my late 20's (very slim). Best of all, I'm never hungry and you are on a diet that is simple, healthy, and sustainable. I'm just shy of 65 years old and although I've always been health-conscious, I had vigorous walks every day, avoided all processed foods, lots of veggies, and modest consumption of meats. In spite of this, I struggled to keep my blood pressure down, it was never so high to cause alarm but I was well enough informed to know that it was not optimum for longevity and healthy aging. In the last few years, I noticed that my hands and my feet were particularly cold all of the time, morning brain fog. Several years earlier, I was getting up 3 to 4 times a night and I had managed to get it down to 0 or 1 time per night with a few natural supplements and lifestyle changes. I was starting to lose the battle again and felt that I was on a slippery slope, getting up once or twice at night to urinate. My daughter had tried keto with intermittent fasting and had encouraged me to try the diet also. When she would explain keto to me, it seemed to be kind of wild and fringy. I had been indoctrinated all my life to eat 3 meals a day, don't skip breakfast, have my coffee breaks, and have healthy snacks. My wife encouraged me to watch Dr. Berg's videos and after many hours, I started to slowly implement his advice. I went from 3 meals to 2 meals. I tried a 3 day fast and although I made a few small mistakes I succeeded. A few weeks later I tried another 3 day fast but had to stop after 2 1/2 days due to my poor electrolyte management. I dove back into Dr. Berg's videos to find out what I had done wrong and tried again with newfound confidence. Dr. Berg's strength is the incredible detail and thought he's put into the hundreds of videos on his channel. If you are patient and determined this rich resource is like having a personal coach. I planned a better 3 day fast with better control of electrolytes and bulletproof coffees, a soft fast. Well, I felt great on the 3rd day and just kept going with the fast until I broke the fast on day 7. Every day I would walk vigorously from 5 to 14 km with about 260 meters of elevation change. Everyone is different but what has helped me with keto is I cut out the bread, zero snacks, stay hydrated, and watch at least one or more of Dr. Berg's videos to learn new tips and tricks to a healthier lifestyle. Cognitive reinforcement has been a very important tool to keep me motivated and focused so I like to listen and re-listen to the videos. Many years ago I tried exercising my way to a better weight and health, I would need maintenance on my elliptical every 6 months. I would lose a little bit of weight, my blood pressure would go down a bit, but I wasn't succeeding. Dr. Berg's keto and intermittent fasting are amazing because it is so simple. I eat very well, I never feel deprived and never feel hungry. My current weight is 78.5 kg or 173 lbs, I have a light frame and am at 188 cm or 6' 2", this is very close to my ideal weight of just under 170 lbs which I should achieve by the end of this month. The irony in all of this is that I had to finally get it while living in France.
