What Is GAG?
As we age or during the aging process, we get forehead lines or wrinkles which are mostly visible on the face. Some people get wrinkles and dark spots too early, while others hardly get them at all. This is the reason why we need collagen in our skin to fight skin aging, and I also want to talk about collagen in general. Our goal here is to take your skin from rough and wrinkled to useful skin.
There is what we call glycosaminoglycans (GAG), a chemical in your body that keeps the skin and collagen electrically hydrated, helps repair protein and collagen in the skin, and helps make healthy, vibrant collagen in the skin. If you don't have this, you’ll have sagging skin and everything hardens.
It's not necessarily sunlight exposure over the years that make your skin wrinkled. In fact, sunlight gives you vitamin D, and it protects the skin. It's actually the deficiency of GAG as we age that causes wrinkles, not sun damage.
GAG is also responsible for the health and hydration of the discs of your spine. If you're shrinking as you get older, then you know you don't have enough of GAG. But, you can't just take it as a supplement to see the change because what controls GAG is the Fat Storing Hormone-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1).
What Is IGF-1?
It's a hormone made by the liver that regulates the growth hormone effects in the body. It is also the anti-aging hormone. IGF-1 is like an extension of the growth hormone. Some people even take growth hormone as a supplement to get smooth skin texture and youthful skin. But there are some side effects to that, so we don't want to take any hormones. We want to figure out natural ways to trigger IGF-1, which will improve your skin tone and overall skin greatly and reduce wrinkles. In other words, improving IGF-1 levels is the best way to get rid of wrinkles and promote skin care regardless of the skin type.
How to Get Rid of Wrinkles: The Seven Ways to Trigger IGF-1
1. Decrease Fat Storing Hormone
IGF-1 teeter-totters with Fat Storing Hormone. If Fat Storing Hormone is high, IGF-1 is low. Healthy, young individuals need a hundred times more concentrated IGF-1 than Fat Storing Hormone. If you have Fat Storing Hormone resistance or diabetes, for example, IGF-1 will go down. People don't realize that IGF-1 is really important to help you reduce Fat Storing Hormone problems and even diabetes. To reduce Fat Storing Hormone, you should change your diet: cut the carbs, follow intermittent fasting, and avoid hidden things that trigger Fat Storing Hormone, like monosodium glutamate (MSG).
2. Enhance Sleep in Whatever Way You Do It
You can use my supplement, the Sleep Aid, or some other supplements to help improve sleep, but you need to fix the reason why you can't sleep because sleeping will increase the IGF-1 as well. If you get 5 or 6 hours of sleep each day, you're going to age quicker. Taking a nap is even important. Sleep also helps lower cortisol, a stress hormone that prevents you from sleeping. Stress can be a factor for less sleep, so you need to find ways to decrease stress levels as well.
3. Do High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT)
Perform HIIT as it helps increase IGF-1, too. Do full-body exercise and make sure to involve as many muscles as possible. This exercise involves very short high-intensity workouts, but you must also have lots of rest and only do it every other day or every third day. This can include exercises you can perform in 45 seconds followed by rest, such as, jumping lunges, alternate side lunges, mountain climbers, burpees, jump squats, and butt kicks. Make sure you don't over-train.
4. Consume High-Quality Protein in Moderate Amounts
Eat moderate amounts of high-quality, grass-fed protein but not too much as it stimulates Fat Storing Hormone production. The amount should be 3-6 ounces for each meal. Doing so helps aid in fighting signs of premature aging and is a good way of getting rid of wrinkles.
5. Improve Liver Health
Enhance your liver health by avoiding alcohol, eating organic foods and veggies, and taking supplements to support the liver. The liver makes IGF-1. If you have leaky gut syndrome, for example, you'll have a fatty liver, so you need to get rid of the fat. Aside from that, the liver also aids in breaking down cholesterol, so if it’s not working properly, cholesterol can build up, which can lead to health complications.
Leaky Gut Syndrome Definition: A digestive condition where holes or cracks in the lining of the intestines occur, allowing bacteria and toxins to leak.
6. Follow Intermittent Fasting
When you don't eat, you're stimulating growth hormone and activating the IGF-1 hormone. Meanwhile, Fat Storing Hormone is activated when you're eating, so Fat Storing Hormone will deactivate the hormone. The more you do intermittent fasting, the more you enhance the hormone.
There are different methods of intermittent fasting you can follow. Just choose from these several approaches which work for you best:
Fast every other day - This approach allows you to fast every other day. You can even consume about 500 calories during the fasting days. This method is best for people who are already at the late stage of intermittent fasting as full-day fasting might not be ideal for beginners.
24-hour fasting once or twice per week - This approach promotes full-day fasting once or twice a week. The fasting time depends on you because you can fast from breakfast to breakfast or lunch to lunch. You can follow the keto diet on non-fasting days.
16/8 Method - This might be the most common approach for the diet plan. It involves fasting for 16 hours and having 8 hours of eating time each day. You can increase the fasting hours if you want and shorten your eating time over time as you go with this method.
7. Consume Fat-Soluble Vitamins, A, D, and K2
I get these vitamins naturally from pasteurized organic egg yolks, but you can also alternatively get them from cod liver oil and grass-fed butter. These vitamins are important in enhancing IGF-1 to increase the production of GAG.
Knowing and understanding the root cause of skin aging will help you figure out how to get rid of wrinkles. You can always fight these signs naturally by following the ways I suggested above and without resorting to using anti-aging products, like moisturizer cream, eye cream, and anti-aging serum. So, make some changes with your lifestyle now and say goodbye to wrinkled skin!
